Toyota Electrified Vehicles

At Jim Pattison Toyota Downtown, we recognize that different mobility needs require different mobility solutions. Proudly offering an impressive array of electric powertrain options, Toyota's commitment to innovation extends beyond the road. From compact sedans to full-size pickups, we offer electrified vehicles to help power your lifestyle. With Vancouver growing a network of charging stations and increasing focus on sustainability, an electric vehicle can offer a clean, convenient, and cost-effective way to navigate the city.

HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HEV)
HEVs seamlessly combine the power of a gas engine with electric motors. It recharges on the go, so you'll never need to plug in.

FAMILIAR DRIVING HABITS
-
Hassel-Free Hybrid Driving
- Hybrid electric powertrains work automatically in the background, so you don’t need to change a thing about how you drive or fuel your vehicle. The hybrid battery recharges on the go so you have the added confidence to get you where you need to go, without the need to plug in.
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles offer the benefits of a hybrid electric, with the option to plug the vehicle in for extended electric-only range. With both a gas engine and electric motor, even if your hybrid battery runs low, you never need to worry about finding a charging station.
- Modern BEVs can travel further than you may think. The new bZ4X has a range of up to 400km on a full charge, depending on factors like battery size, driving habits, and weather. Conveniently charge at home or at any of the growing number of charging stations across Canada.
- There’s no need to change your driving habits with FCEVs. Where refueling infrastructure exists, simply fill the hydrogen fuel tank and you are ready to enjoy zero emissions driving at its finest.

LOWER FUEL COSTS & EMMISSIONS
- Vehicles powered by electricity can make driving more affordable. Savings can be even higher if you recharge during off-peak hours.
- Depending on your vehicle's fuel type and driving habits, you can spend some of the time in zero-fuel, zero-emissions driving.
- PHEVs can travel faster and further in EV-mode than conventional hybrid electric vehicles. So you can spend more time in zero-fuel driving, and reduce emissions even more.
Since 1997, electrified Toyota vehicles have prevented over 94 million tons of CO2 emissions globally. Reducing CO2 emissions by going fully electric is one way we can help lessen greenhouse gasses, and lessen our impact on the environment.
NO ADDITIONAL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
-
Hybrid Maintenance
- Not only do Toyota hybrid electric vehicles follow the same maintenance schedule of every 6 months or 8,000 KM (whichever comes first), but the way the hybrid electric system works may reduce how often other areas of the car need servicing.
- Depending upon how the vehicle is driven, in a hybrid electric, the engines are off some of the time, the brakes are regenerative, saving pad & rotor life, there is no transmission fluid under load, and there are no starters, alternators or belts to be replaced.
- Say goodbye to oil changes and many other traditional maintenance tasks. Without a combustion engine or transmission, Battery Electric Vehicles have fewer mechanical components. On top of that, the regenerative braking in these vehicles reduces brake pad wear, further lowering service and maintenance costs over time.

Are Toyota Electrified Vehicles Safe?
Toyota’s hybrid electric systems are designed and tested for Canada just like any Toyota vehicle, and adhere to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. HEVs, PHEVs and BEVs cause no greater concern for passengers or rescuers in the event of a collision than non-hybrid vehicles. The batteries are sealed in a protective metal case and insulated from the vehicle body. Additionally, hybrid electric battery cables are shrouded in bright-orange cladding as a warning to emergency workers, and Toyota works closely with first responders to provide information and material for training on how to work with hybrid electrics.
Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
STARTING UP
In most conditions, only the electric motor is engaged, saving fuel and delivering instant torque with minimal emissions
REGENERATIVE BRAKING
The regenerative braking system converts braking energy into electric energy to help recharge the battery onboard the vehicle
CONSERVES FUEL
When stopped, the gas engine shuts down to conserve fuel. When reversing at low speed, only the electric motor is required

Toyota Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV)
CARBON-FREE RENEWABLE ENERGY
Imagine a vehicle so clean that it emits only water from its tailpipe. That’s the power and potential of Toyota’s revolutionary hydrogen fuel cell electric (FCEV) technology. Simply fill the hydrogen fuel tank and you are ready to enjoy zero emissions driving at its finest.
HOW FCEVs WORK
Toyota’s revolutionary fuel cell stack creates the electricity that drives the vehicle through a chemical reaction between hydrogen that is stored on board, and oxygen from the atmosphere.
- The PCU controls energy output by deciding when to use stored energy from the battery or draw directly from the fuel cell stack
- Press the accelerator pedal and electricity from the fuel cell stack is sent to the motor
- In the fuel cell stack, hydrogen and oxygen from the air combine in a chemical reaction that creates electricity to power the electric motor
- Uses the same battery as a Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicle, increasing the voltage to 650 volts, enhancing performance and making more efficient use of the electric motor
- Energy, recaptured during braking, is used to recharge the battery, and assist when high power is required, such as during acceleration
- Hydrogen is pumped into the vehicle and stored in carbon-fibre reinforced, polymer lined tanks, designed for safe fuel storage

HYDROGEN TANKS
IS HYDROGEN POWER SAFE?
- Our multi-patented, carbon-fiber-wrapped, polymer-lined hydrogen tanks, are built in a three-layer structure and absorb five times the crash energy of steel
- To prevent hydrogen from traveling to potentially damaged systems outside of the tank, the system automatically shuts the tank’s hydrogen output valve
- All hydrogen-related parts are located outside the cabin and designed to help ensure leaked hydrogen doesn’t build up
- Since hydrogen gas is lighter than air, it rapidly disperses, reducing the potential for damage in the event of an ignition
OUR TANKS ARE DESIGNED NOT TO LEAK
IN A HIGH SPEED COLLISION, SENSORS STOP THE FLOW OF HYDROGEN
ANY LEAKED HYDROGEN IS QUICKLY DISPERSED
